Ah, Bangkok. We've arrived and our mission really is just to get out as fast as possible! We want to trek the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal and are conscious that time is getting on, the later we leave it the colder it will be and the more likely that parts of the circuit will be closed due to snow.
Anyways, we're holed up close to the the backpacker ghetto that is Khao San Road. This is the third time I've been here in eight or so years, and it all looks pretty much the same to me, I've not been around long enough to see the changes that Peter Moore has, it looks pretty much the same as how I remember it, but I noticed a lot less people selling "dodgy" cds and dvds (but then who buys cds these days anyway?) instead you can have the tunes put directly on your iPod by a nice man with an iMac. During the day the place is pretty quiet but at night the Farang and market stalls come out in force. There are loads of bars lining the road (and the area about) but we find the best thing to do is grab a tiny plastic seat at one of the impromtu bars on the pavement and watch the world go by, and meet the people by you. We had some great conversations meeting some Americans just back from Iraq and a Welsh bloke living with his girl in South Korea.
We didn't manage to see much of Bangkok - Helen set us one objective in three days: to go on a river trip - and we didn't even manage that!
